New England over the Holidays

So every year my husband and I take a trip between Christmas and New Years. We haven’t spent a ton of time in New England and we’re suckers for cute quaint towns. So this year we headed to Portsmouth, NH.

It took a really long time to drive to our destination because of it being a holiday week, so we decided to take a break from the traffic and stop at  B.T.'s smokehouse in Sturbridge, MA. The staff was super friendly and we ordered half a rack of spare ribs and a bison burger. The ribs were good but definitely needed sauce. The sauce we found to be the best was their sweet sauce. It tasted liked a baked apple. The bison burger was really good as well.

Where we stayed:

When we finally arrived to Portsmouth on Tuesday evening, we checked into the Hilton garden inn downtown Portsmouth.  It was nice, but don’t expect a ton of luxuries or free water. Aside from the 2 water bottles they give to Hilton honors members, they charge you $5 dollars per water bottles. Also parking is only valet and is $40 a day. (HH members don’t receive a discount). I do know the other Hilton close by also has the same parking situation. One good thing, was I wanted to use their hot tub, but forgot a bathing suit, and was able to order a bathing suit on amazon that got delivered to the hotel.

On Tuesday night, we didn’t stop anywhere in Portsmouth because it was getting pretty late, but we walked around and it looked cute!

Wednesday we woke up and decided to stay in the area and as my husband says "get the lay of the land". We started out by going to Noa Cafe because who starts the day without coffee? Okayyy I know there are some coffee haters out there, so maybe tea? But anyways the coffee was delicious. I ordered their Fireside Latte with fig and cinnamon syrup. It was perfect. 💙

Our next stop was The Juicery and The Soupery (no photo of the soup - sorry!)

The smoothie had bananas, almond butter, spinach, dates, almond milk, sunflower seeds, and ginger-carrot juice *all the healthies* and it was delicious! The ginger - carrot juice was not too powering either, if you were wondering, because I certainly was!

After getting our caffeine, smoothies and soup, we visited Portsmouth Historical Society to view their Gingerbread House Exhibit, and we were blown away with some of the creativity we saw.

After seeing all of these awesome Gingerbread Houses, we decide to walk across the bridge to Kittery, Maine. Got some photos and walked back.

The rest of the day will be continued in the next blog post, so stay tuned!
